Joe Wortell // Lucas Wayne & the Cottonmouths

Joe Wortell

Country music has always been about the voice and the story. Well, Joe Wortell sure has the voice and he sure as hell has some stories. Hailing from the City of Chicago where he works at his family's metal fabrication factory Joe cut his teeth in the bars and Honky Tonks playing the hell out of his songs about leather tanned mavericks, hard luck hussies, runaway cats, two stroke boat engines and accidental overdoses, all while mythologizing the easy life off some remote beach in Florida. The songs are earnest, the lyrics are at times hilarious, his band is smoking and his voice is unforgettable.

Lucas Wayne

Lucas Wayne is a storyteller at heart, singing about the quirks of everyday characters and the experiences of growing up in rural Eastern Kentucky and Southern Illinois - where he is based today. Classically trained, his vocal range and natural vibrato leaves crowds stunned. Wayne’s songs move between simply sweet, utterly silly and seriously sad. They all resonate with a humble honestly that is inviting and refreshing. For a few years Lucas Wayne has been captivating audiences as a solo artist. Now he is touring with his band The Cottonmouths - whose members have toured extensively with Vince Herman Band, Rev Peyton’s Big Damn Band, The Whistle Pigs and more. Together they present an emotionally and sonically dynamic show that instantly connects with people. It features a truly impressive vocal performance, red-hot lead guitar/pedal-steel and a perfectly seasoned rhythm section.

Joshua Hedley / Lawrence Peters Outfit

Joshua Hedley is “a singing professor of country & western,” he declares on his raucous and witty new album, Neon Blue. It might sound like a punchline, but it’s not. An ace fiddle player, a sharp guitarist, and a singer with a granite twang, he’s devoted his entire life to the study of this genre. Ask him about it and he’ll explain: “When all my friends went off to college, I went to Nashville. I was 19 years old playing honkytonks and getting an education.” His 2018 debut, Mr. Jukebox, showcased his deep knowledge of country’s history, in particular the beery ballads of the 1950s and ‘60s. His mentors were George Jones, Ray Price, and Glen Campbell, but his most remarkable accomplishment was putting his own spin on their style. Hedley has been a presence in Nashville for nearly twenty years, although you have to know where to find him. You have to brave the tourists on Broadway, bypass the three-story bars blasting Journey, and make your way to Robert’s Western World, a time-capsule honkytonk from a different era, an oasis in a town where twang is constantly being run down by pedal pubs. That place informed the sound and style of Mr. Jukebox, which introduced him to a wider audience beyond the city limits and established him as one of Nashville’s most knowledgeable and exciting artists. After making Mr. Jukebox with a loose group of hell-raising friends, Hedley decided to record his follow-up with professional session players—a Nashville tradition. Producers Skylar Wilson (Justin Townes Earle, Lindi Ortega) and Jordan Lehning (Rodney Crowell) corralled an all-star crew featuring some of the city’s best players, who made Hedley step up his game. During the process of co-writing and recording Neon Blue, the singing professor became the student, learning lessons he’ll apply to everything he does next.

The Lawrence Peters Outfit play un-ruined country music, a term Lawrence coined to describe the band’s original, deep-rooted, honky tonk sound. They are 2019 and 2018 Ameripolitan Award nominees, in the Best Honky Tonk Group category, two time winners of the “Best Country And Western Entertainer” trophy (Chicago Music Awards), and “Best Country Band” in The Chicago Reader’s “Best Of 2022” poll. Their LP “What You Been Missin’” is cited as one of the essential Chicago country and folk albums, in Mark Guarino’s 2023 book “Country & Midwestern” (University Of Chicago Press). Lawrence may be best known for his lead vocal on “The Old Black Hen”, on Jason Molina’s watershed "Songs: OHIA- Magnolia Electric Company" album. Peters leads the "Outfit" through his own finely crafted originals and cherry-picked classics. The band is a super-group of Chi-Town pickers, including Matt Gandurski on lead guitar, John Huber on rhythm guitar, and Josh Piet on upright bass.

Kimmi Bitter & the Westside Twang (ca) / The Golden Bucks

Kimmi Bitter

Dubbed "the future of classic country" by Saving Country Music, Kimmi Bitter is painting a whole new tapestry that drapes golden-era Countrypolitan with coastal desert twang. A rising force in the underground Americana scene she's mixing the old school with the new cool by capturing the attention of music fans and critics alike. That boundary-pushing spirit burst onto the scene when her 2024 debut album Old School, which landed in the Top 25 on the Americana Album Radio Chart and earned eight award nominations across outlets like Saving Country Music and the San Diego Music Awards. Of those, she took home three San Diego Music Awards, including Song of the Year (2024 & 2025) and Best Country Album (2025). The album also topped the Alt-Country Specialty Charts for four consecutive weeks, and her live performance was recently regarded as "one of the biggest takeaways" from Austin's SXSW.

Lydia Cash

Lydia Cash grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. She moved to Chicago on a whim in 2013, and her love for the city has since become a wellspring of inspiration for her music.Listening to Lydia Cash’s newest EP, “Blush,” feels almost like reading a secret– the five songs are beacons of authenticity where she reveals the innermost workings of her heart’s loves and losses. Each song is a unique confessional, a portrait of a moment in time, poured out of her like the best bottle of wine on a back porch. Heartache, new romance, and introspection are all common themes that are held together with threads of vulnerable moments– a shared cigarette, a head on a shoulder. Her delicate melodies, enrapturing voice, and a pedal steel twang showcase this native Alabamian/Chicago transplant’s dichotomy of grit and sweetness.

Michelle Billingsley has a reputation for being unguarded, tackling subjects considered taboo for polite women. With her sophomore album, Both Sides Of Lonely, this national and international touring artist has evolved beyond the folky troubadour of her lauded debut Not The Marrying Kind, becoming a torchbearer for classic country and western and honky-tonk that strikes a satisfying balance between vintage and modern.Glide Magazine says: "Billingsley has grabbed many an ear with her throwback honkytonk sound that combines shades of the modern and past- think Sierra Ferrell, Lucinda Williams, and Tammy Wynette. Alongside her introspectively outspoken lyrics and steel-driven sound, Billingsley evokes dusty neon light taverns where the draft beer is served cold and the locals still run the joint."

Wild Earp & the Free for Alls // Cindy Crawford Cult

Wild Earp takes you on a road trip across Americana, taking his time along those country roads and learning some bad habits in the city. His songs are of a man who’s spent too much time alone in the forest, the prairie, the mountains, the desert, and the barroom. With a respectful nod to the old masters and a defiant scoff at the purists, Earp croons his country tunes, and mixes those pensive trail songs with jumping rockabilly, spirited bluegrass, rowdy rock, and sometimes ventures into the dark corners of folk. His lyrics thread traditional tales of heartache, sinful living, and celebration seamlessly with social commentary and absurdism. There’s wit, wisdom, woe, and a wild streak that keeps you guessing.

He’s backed by The Free for Alls, a talented and fun-loving cast of characters who give life and depth to the music. Their hootin’ and hollerin’ enthusiasm is matched by their good taste and broad talents, and they leave nothing off of the table.  They ain't too hard on the eyes, neither!

Sara Jean Stevens & the Swamp Angels // Cary Hudson

Sara Jean Stevens writes songs for the loners, the hopeless romantics, and the dreamers. Her sophomore EP Lovesick weaves Americana, folk, and roadhouse grit into layered stories of love, longing, and memory. Recorded live in just two days at Dial Back Sound in Mississippi with Matt Patton (Drive-By Truckers), the EP includes collaborators like Taylor Hollingsworth and Kell Kellum, and draws from decades of lived experience. With praise from Americana Highways and show invitations from John Hiatt, The Wood Brothers, and Rhett Miller, Stevens continues carving out her own lane—one filled with pedal steel and poetry laced lyrics.

Cary Hudson is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from the great state of Mississippi who resides somewhere between Memphis and New Orleans. He is a former drugstore clerk, landscaper, farm hand, waiter, house painter, pizza deliverer, and fry cook who currently spends his time canoeing the creeks of south MS, riding his bike to the snowcone stand, and going for leisurely walks with his dogs. Cary’s music career began with a bang when his band placed third at the Sumrall High School Talent Show in 1980. In the late 80’s he moved to Oxford and started The Hilltops with John Stirratt (currently bassist with Wilco), and shortly thereafter John’s twin sister Laurie joined the band. After five years of touring, recording, and liver damage, The Hilltops called it a day and Cary and Laurie moved to Los Angeles in 1990. While living in Venice, Cary worked in a deli and hung out with the guys in Weezer (fun), walked on Zuma Beach hoping to meet Neil Young, started a band called Blue Mountain with Laurie, and experienced the Rodney King riots (not fun). After moving back to Oxford in 1992, Blue Mountain began touring nationally, signed a deal with Roadrunner Records, and recorded their classic Dog Days album with producer Eric “Roscoe” Ambel. They went on to record more albums, played shows with Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, Wilco, The Jayhawks and Wille Nelson, were the cover story of the second No Depression magazine, and in 2011 were voted “Most Legendary Oxford Band” by the readers of The Local Voice. Ryan Curtis Band

Over the last decade, Ryan Curtis has continued to carve out a name for himself in the world of Alt-Country and Americana music. His unique blend of old school honky tonk and high desert country blues plays like a love letter to the past, bucking the slick sheen and tired cliches of today’s pop country radio in favor of traditional, songwriter-driven roots music. Ryan’s songs are usually about life’s harder-learned lessons, painting cinematic pictures of anti-heroes from the Midwest to the Rockies. Visionary tales of down-and-out townies, bar room drifters, forlorn lovers, and resilient loners dot the mournful subject matter he turns into rowdy & upbeat country gold. His first solo record, 2021’s Rust Belt Broken Heart was woven together with a western noir sound soaked in the sorrowful twang of pedal steel. His latest Ain’t Ever Easy, (released in July on American Standard Time) builds on that, but with a more guitar-forward sound, mixing in early 70’s rock n’ roll, (a’ la Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street era Rolling Stones), alongside classic 60’s country and honky tonk. The gravelly voice of the Michigan-born, Boise-based singer has been praised on KEXP and earned acclaim from the likes of No Depression and Saving Country Music. You can catch Ryan and his band out on the road week in and week out bringing the heat to the dives and haunts of the great American West and beyond.

Alex Teller (mi) / James Gedda & the Big Breakfast

James Gedda is an up-and-coming Country and Americana singer-songwriter with a booming voice and a plainspoken honesty in his lyrics. The Crown Point, IN native has drawn comparisons to the likes of Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard with his earthy baritone, and he regularly covers such classics, but what drives him is writing songs and telling stories with modern sensibilities. He's performed in such historic venues as The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, and regularly sings all over Northwest Indiana and the Chicago area on top of having toured through Appalachia & the Southwest. He's released three locally-recorded solo acoustic EP's: Thick As Thieves, Bad Things Happen: Dynaline Sessions Vol. 1, and Hollering in a Bar, along with a pair of singles produced by Midamerican Records in Nashville, TN and is hard at work on getting his debut full-band, full-length album released. James Gedda is not an artist to miss if you're a fan of infectious melodies and affecting stories.

Alex Teller's warm, lived-in voice paired with acoustic flat-picking and travis-style guitar work creates a captivating live show, evoking memories of a distant American past. Teller's intimate and authentic storytelling compels listeners to feel something real, filling the room with tears and laughter while embracing the beauty of humanity. Alex’s songs draw inspiration from American balladeers like Townes Van Zandt, Kris Kristofferson, and Woody Guthrie, bringing a nostalgic, yet original performance.
